I used one of his photos as a base and did a painting from it.
I worked longer than I had originally intended to, because the scene seemed to have good potential.

As you can see, the photo changed pretty dramatically and you can only see original parts of it in the right area.

It's my submission for the Winter challenge.

6 hours in all I guess, but it was spread across a few days.
Apart from the photo, no ref. was used.
