This is my entry for the "When We Left Earth - 3D" competition.
The shot shows earth a few months after mankind vacated its dying planet. Before leaving, humans stockpiled their most precious belongings and archival records in gigantic stacks of containers scattered across their empty cities.
The shot shows one of thousands Noah (class IV) harvester-transporters as it sweeps through downtown Buneos Aires, hovering up the leftover containers.
The scene is based on an actual Buenos Aires street corner, near the Placa de Mayo, and includes models based on actual street furniture. I do not live in Argentina, so I modelled everything based on hundreds of photographs (luckily, this particular place is pretty well documented). Every piece was modelled specifically for this challenge and I didn't re-use any assets.
The modeling was done in 3dsMax 2010 and the rendering in VraySP4. I used VrayRT quite extensively to help me create my materials. I also used Max's particle flow quite extensively throughout the image.
